I see in you the estuary that enlarges and spreads itself grandly as it pours in the Great Sea. ~ Walt Whitman
We met this dear lady on our visit to Wat Po - famed temple of the giant reclining Buddha in Bangkok. She was sitting up against the outside of the building that houses the Buddha image, in the only sliver of shade she could find. She was all by herself..no one around at all..and she was stitching some type of design onto a little piece of cloth as we approached...not noticing us at all, and seemingly just passing the time. She looked so old and so alone that it wouldn't have felt right at all to just walk past without stopping to speak with her. We walked up, said hello, and asked if she was doing o.k. With a big smile she said that was doing just fine for someone 91 years old. We asked what she was doing, and she said that she comes there every day to see her Buddha and pray for everyone. Then she asked our names, and we told her. She said that her next prayers would be for us. She was so concerned about making sure that she got our names right in her prayers..asking us several times to make sure she had the names memorized. We were all so focused on her getting our names that I forgot to ask HER name. I'm going to try to find out if possible, and if I ever do, I'll make an addendum here. All I can tell you is that it felt mighty good knowing that she was praying for us.
wow...i love the story...so touching.
she has a beautiful face...so deep and
full of memories. i bet she is the kind of
person who has millions of incredible
stories to tell.
I hope you find her name, but even if you don't, God knows each of his angels and I'm sure he's proud of this one. She absolutely glows with a glory that is rarely seen. Great capture.
That is such a sweet story, and the photo is sweet as well. In as many senses of the word as you want to read into Well...except perhaps taste. I don't think it would be all that delectable.
awww ... sweet story! Well, I'm quite sure she knew what she was doing. She so completely squashed any worry in you that she had any needs or distress or loneliness whatsoever that you didn't even NEED to ask her name!! Nor did she need to give it! Look at it that way!
This portrait is beautiful and what I was going to say even BEFORE reading your story is that there is complete grace in her expression and now that I read your story it is SO AMAZING to me that you captured it or ...that she so eminates it so that you can't help but capture it. That it would be the one singular thing that pops out at me when I really looked closely at her face, her eyes, her smile. It takes an observant person to notice it's worth the click of the shutter
